Update from Kelly Benefit Strategies Elite Team.
This weekend was another good one for the Kelly Benefit Strategies Elite Team with back to back criteriums. Our racing actually started early, with a short time trial in Wilmington, DE, where Jon D'Alba took 2nd behind Optum Pro Cycling's Scott Zwizanski.
On Saturday, we raced in the Wilmington Grand Prix, a fixture on the National Criterium Calendar series. Last year, Ben Frederick made the break and went on to finish 7th, so we were looking to build on that performance this year. While our guys raced with skill and heart, it was not to be as we missed the breakaway this year. We stayed on the gas and never quit, however, with Chris Jones leading a small breakaway in the closing laps and Frederick finishing in the money at the end of the day.
Sunday was our home race - BikeJam in Patterson Park in downtown Baltimore, MD. A tweak to the course this year lent a really fresh look to the race and our guys were excited to get out there and rebound from Saturday's race. Rebound they did as they took the offensive from lap one. Despite our aggression, the field wanted to chase everything down and it became clear that we would need to ride for a field sprint.
With 5 laps to go, our team took over at the front, gradually speeding up the leadout until the last lap, when we starting burning guys off the front until it was left to Frederick to drop Ben Fogle off 200m from the line, where Fogle was able to sprint to the win! This is actually the very first time that the elite team has been able to take home the Kelly Cup and is a very proud moment for us.
Upcoming this weekend is the Killington Stage Race in Vermont. We've won the overall GC for 3 years running at this race and our goal is to keep that streak running for a fourth!
Great job guys from CeraSport!
