Report from the Air Force Cycling Classic 2014

June 11, 2014

Cera Products is a proud sponsor of  the Optum Pro Cycling presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies cycling team.

This past weekend saw the team have a great start to June at the NCC Air Force Classic: two days of professional criteriums in Northern Virginia, just across the Potomac River from Washington, DC.
Saturday was the Clarendon Cup, held on a 1km, 5-turn downtown course. The riders faced 100 laps against stacked teams from UHC, Jamis, SmartStop, and others. Ben Frederick continued his recent streak by riding very aggressively throughout the race, only just missing the break of the day, which went as a counter to one of his moves. This break would go on to lap the field, though our guys continued to fight, with Ben Fogle attacking with another rider to chase primes late in the race. Once that move was brought back, Ben Frederick countered and spent the 11 of the last 12 laps off the front with one other rider, only to be caught by the UHC leadout train with less than 800m to go. Brett Kielick held on for a top-25 finish in the resulting sprint.
Ben Frederick's efforts were enough to earn him a trip to the podium to receive the "Most Courageous Rider" jersey! The constant aggression from the team, though not enough to earn a top placing on the day, sure kept their name on the announcer's lips all day, and got the team some great coverage in the cycling media.
